By staying hydrated and eating a diet that consists mostly of greens and lean proteins, you will keep your veins and arteries elastic and working properly. In addition, consistent exercise helps to improve your blood pressure over time. Even just walking 30 minutes a day three days a week can drastically improve your blood pressure levels.

And finally, your stress level is a huge factor that can alter your blood pressure. When we get stressed, our bodies release a hormone called adrenaline in order to prepare our bodies for survival mode. If your job is stressful or your home life is stressful, this fight or flight response will cause a high resting pulse. This will cause your blood pressure to rise when it doesn’t need to and cause you problems down the line. Engaging in de-stressing activities like yoga or meditation can really help to decrease these stress levels.
