Healthy Blood Pressure

Why It’s Important to Know Your Numbers This New Year

The New Year is usually a time of renovation for most people. This is a time when most people decide that they need some sort of change in their life and thus end up making resolutions in hopes of improving their personal finances, physical health or other personal goals. One of the most common resolutions that people make during the New Year concerns improving their health and losing weight. Unfortunately, most people tend to start misguided and with unrealistic goals and tend to give up on their goal rather quickly, this is why being informed about your own well-being and your current health status is one of the best things you can do when it comes to sticking to your resolutions.

A healthy weight effects high blood pressure

If you have thought about losing weight and maintaining healthy blood pressure levels, you should know that these two tend to go hand in hand. While losing weight is one of the best things you can do to support healthy blood pressure levels, it is generally not this easy, especially if you have struggled with obesity and high blood pressure for a long period of time. Physicians recommend a general physical exam at least once a year, however, those who are at a higher risk of developing health conditions associated with high blood pressure should do a general checkup at least twice a year, and doing a general checkup just before the new year starts can be a great way to know your current status and to setup realistic goals that can be achieved through hard work and dedication.

When it comes to heart disease, the American Heart Association recommends getting lab work done for blood sugar levels, blood pressure, cholesterol, and waistline circumference as well as body mass index. While the body mass index is a very controversial method of determining fitness, it is fairly accurate when it comes to determining obesity and other problems associated with the consumption of foods high in fat and sugar.

High Blood Pressure Readings

When it comes to blood pressure, you may perhaps already know that “ideal” blood pressure is described as 120/80… but what do these numbers mean? 120/80 refers to systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure. Systolic blood pressure is the amount of blood that the heart pushes out to the arteries, bones and muscles in the body when it is fully contracted and systolic blood pressure refers to the amount of blood that is pushed out to the body between heart palpitations. If someone says their blood pressure is 129/82 this means that their systolic blood pressure is 129 millimeters of mercury and their diastolic blood pressure is 82 millimeters of mercury. Generally speaking, anything above 120/80 is considered high blood pressure or hypertension and anything below these numbers is considered low blood pressure or hypotension. While there is some leeway as far as the threshold and the spectrum of both ends, it is generally accepted that someone with 120/80 blood pressure is extremely healthy.

While low blood pressure is generally considered dangerous, it is not nearly as dangerous as high blood pressure. Hypertension has been associated with a very large number of diseases and conditions that can affect the human body and that can ultimately lead to death. Keep in mind that if your other levels such as bodyweight, waistline circumference and cholesterol are above their normal levels this can give you a clear indication as to why you might be suffering from high blood pressure, obesity is one of the most dangerous epidemics currently affecting Americans all over the country. But do not despair! You have the tools you need in order to help you win this fight, remember that increased activity levels and taking PD120, a natural blood pressure supplement, can be some of the best things you can do to help maintain healthy blood pressure, and while many doctors out there recommend taking prescription medication to help lower blood pressure levels, it is never a bad idea to take a natural supplement that can give you that extra help you need.

Despite the fact that blood pressure is now being watched more closely by doctors and healthcare workers nowadays, you should also not ignore your other levels. Make sure you have all the accurate information you need to start the New Year on the right track and remember that the help and support of family members and friends can be that extra dose of motivation that can help you overcome high blood pressure and help you support healthy blood pressure.
